Survival shows have exploded on television. Just what is it that compels a person to prove they can exist in no-man’s land with very little and even sometimes without any clothes? To me, that can be compared to using an old outhouse in the back woods when I have a perfectly good bathroom right here in my house. I could do it, but do I have to? It seems these survivalists need to prove something, either to themselves and/or to others as well. That has been the nature of the beast since Adam. Self-sufficiency and independence – I can do it myself thank you, no help needed here! So many people are trying to go through life that way, doing it their own way with no assistance from anyone. Unfortunately, we were not created that way. We were created by God for God – to look to Him for our survival! He WANTS us to depend on Him! And He WANTS to provide for us. All we need to do is look to Him and ask! Like all good fathers, He wants to bless His children! Oh, if you want to prove you can survive 21 days with just a knife and a cooking pot, go for it. I’ll be sitting in my comfy sofa, drinking my ice cold bottle of purified water watching you!
19 And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19 (NLT)
11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created. Revelation 4:11 (KJV)
3 When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers— the moon and the stars you set in place— 4 what are people that you should think about them, mere mortals that you should care for them? 5 Yet you made them only a little lower than God and crowned them with glory and honor. Psalm 8:3-5 (NLT)
2 You want what you don’t have, so you scheme and kill to get it. You are jealous of what others have, but you can’t get it, so you fight and wage war to take it away from them. Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it. 3 And even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure. James 4:2-3 (NLT)
