Deuteronomy chapter 28 was written to God's covenant people - those who were in covenant relationship with Him. God's people should desire to walk with Him, obey His commandments and continually seek after Him. Because when we are seeking after God, our minds and hearts won't be drawn away after carnal things. And that is how covetousness gets a foothold in our lives which leads to discontentment. In Matthew 6:31 we see where Jesus instructs against worrying about what to eat, what to drink or what to wear. God desires a relationship with us and when we have that covenant relationship with Him, He will add to our lives all that we need.
