One Nation Under God…Indivisible!

One Nation Under God…Indivisible!

In Matthew 12:25, Jesus says “….Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation and every city or house divided against itself will not stand (NKJV)”.  The Easy-to-Read version says it like this “…Every kingdom that fights against itself will be destroyed.  And every city or family that is divided against itself will not survive.” Jesus was responding to accusations by the Pharisees that He was casting out demons by the power of Satan.  Jesus replied that, if that were true, then Satan would be casting himself out so how could he stand? What happens in homes where husbands and wives are constantly fighting? Divorce. What happens to sports teams where teammates don’t work together? Losing records.  What happens to churches when leadership or congregants quarrel and disagree?  Church splits. What happens to countries whose governing parties constantly bicker or whose citizens are divided? Total chaos and upheaval. The devil is very smart.  He knows well the battle strategy of divide and conquer.  He knows the easiest way to cause destruction is not to attack from the outside but from within.  He knows the best way to manipulate people is to get them to a place of discontentment and discord. If he can do that, he just sits back and watches the mayhem.  Great things can happen when people are in one accord. Just look at what happened on the day of Pentecost!  The devil knows the power of unity and he is working overtime to cause conflict.  So church, we must pray for unity!  Pray for peaceful resolutions.  Pray for people to esteem one another better than themselves.  Pray against division and strife and that this country be perfectly joined together, one nation under God!

10 Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. 1 Corinthians 1:10 (NKJV)

1 Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! Psalm 133:1 (NKJV)

2 fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. 3 Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Philippians 2:2-3 (NKJV)
