I was in line at a store the other day getting a few essentials that we had run out of at home. The floor was marked off with tape at 6 foot intervals and the cashier would call the next customer up to the register when she was ready. We were not allowed to empty our carts ourselves, they did everything for us behind there masks and acrylic shields. The customer in front of me was informed by the cashier “You are only allowed to purchase one of these as she took one out of his cart.” He looked back at me and smirked “the new normal”.
At first, I gave a little chuckle at his remark. But instantly in my spirit I sensed something else. This rose up in me – “No, this is not your new normal and don’t accept it!”. I had another similar experience at the mailbox last week. I opened the statement from my husband’s retirement fund and I saw what had happened to it in the last month. My first reaction was “Oh no! This is suppose to be our source when we retire!” And no sooner was that thought entering my mind that it rose up in my spirit – “Who is your source?”!
It is all too easy during this unprecedented time of devastation to life, health and finances to allow ourselves to worry to the point of panic. It reminds me of Luke 21:25-26 which in the Message Bible says – “It will seem like all hell has broken loose—sun, moon, stars, earth, sea in an uproar and everyone all over the world in a panic, the wind knocked out of them by the threat of doom, the powers-that-be quaking.” But if we look to anything other than God as our source, then we are living on sinking sand.
My job is not my source. My savings account is not my source. The shelves at the supermarket are not my source. And certainly my government is not my source. My source for all things is God and only God! His bounty is endless and He will not leave me lacking. Lift up your eyes because that’s where your help comes from! He made the heavens and the earth so He is more than able to meet your needs!
Psalm 121:1-8 (NKJV) 1 I will lift up my eyes to the hills– From whence comes my help? 2 My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth. 3 He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber. 4 Behold, He who keeps Israel Shall neither slumber nor sleep. 5 The LORD is your keeper; The LORD is your shade at your right hand. 6 The sun shall not strike you by day, Nor the moon by night. 7 The LORD shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. 8 The LORD shall preserve your going out and your coming in From this time forth, and even forevermore.
