Over the next several Food for Thought’s we will be looking into the armor that God has provided for the believer. Why do we need armor anyway? People only need armor when they are in a battle. Well, we may not be in a physical battle, but we are daily in a battle. And this battle is a spiritual one – against our only enemy, the devil. Each piece of the armor that we have been provided with protects us from the various methods the devil uses against us. Today we start with the belt of truth. The devil’s main mode of operation against believers is lies. And it is impossible to be able to tell if something is a lie unless you know what the truth is. If we are not knowledgeable about the truth, or what God says about something, then we can easily be deceived into believing the devil’s lies. After all, he is not only a proficient liar, he is the father of lies. He is good at it. His specialty is mixing just enough truth in with his lies that he can get you to give a second thought to what he says. It is a strategy that has worked for him for thousands of years. The more truth (Word) you have in you, the better equipped you are against this strategy of the devil. A belt surrounds your core. Your core is the base of strength for your entire body. So we must gird it. We gird it physically so we can stand strong. Spiritually we gird ourselves with the belt of truth -God’s Word – which allows us to stand unshakable forever!
13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, Ephesians 6:13-148 (NKJV)
44 For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies. John 8:44 (NLT)
11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles (strategies NLT) of the devil. Ephesians 6:11 (NKJV)
