In our church building, there are exactly 17 steps from the main level to the lower level. I have ascended and descended these stairs hundreds, maybe thousands of times. And the number of steps never changes. There are always 17. I have counted them because I have descended them many a time while carrying items in my arms preventing me from seeing the bottom. So I count as I go down. And each time, when I get to 17, I reach out with my foot to make sure I am at the bottom. Now this sounds sensible, because perhaps I miscounted. So most times my hesitation is just precaution. Could it have changed? Could there be, say, 18 steps this time? No! There were 17 yesterday, there are 17 today and there will be 17 tomorrow. There is no need for hesitation. Faith is similar. We know that we know what God promises us in His word, but sometimes there is that slight hesitation on our part in acting upon those promises. “I wonder if God really meant what He said!” God’s Word is firm. It is unchanging. It is the same yesterday, today and forever. I want to come to the place where I have no hesitation – I trust Him so much that whenever God speaks, I move! I won’t even have to know where I am going because I trust the One who is leading me!
8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Hebrews 13:8 (NLT)
20 For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us. 2 Corinthians 1:20 (NKJV)
19 God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through? Numbers 23:19 (NLT)
