His Eye Is On The Sparrow!

His Eye Is On The Sparrow!

Upon trimming some bushes out at our church, I discovered a small nest.  It is a sparrow’s nest containing 5 tiny eggs.  I’ve been checking on the nest every day and it now contains 5 tiny little baby sparrows.  Occasionally, I catch the mother sparrow feeding her young and sometimes the babies are alone with their little beaks skyward waiting for the mother’s return with a meal.  Today it is extremely blustery.  The trees are bending and I know the wind is fierce so I go to check on the nest.  And there, hunkered down, wings spread over her young, is the mother sparrow.  The bush is bouncing back and forth in the wind, but momma bird is hanging on for dear life to protect her babies.  As I watched this, I was reminded of this scripture- Psalm 91:4 “He will cover you with his feathers.  He will shelter you with his wings.  His faithful promises are your armor and protection.”  NLT  As the mother sparrow protects her babies from the wind, the rain, or the storm, how much more are we sheltered by God’s wings of protection!

1 Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. 2 This I declare about the LORD: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him. 3 For he will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease. 4 He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection.  Psalm 91:1-4 (NLT)

6 Are not five sparrows sold for two copper coins? And not one of them is forgotten before God. 7 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. Luke 12:6-7 (NKJV)

26 Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are?  Matthew 6:26 (NLT)
